Volunteer Guide

Welcome to Team Madeira.Life :-)

We hope you're stay will be a fantastic experience.  Key to this will be to:
 
Make Guest stays better - be polite and social, say Hi or Good Morning when you see anyone.  Remember the lounge, kitchen and other facilities are for the guest. We're happy for you to use them, but please put their needs first
Be a great housemate – Polite, sociable, happy.  We live together and there are certain shared tasks – taking rubbish down the road, keeping an eye on communal spaces (downstairs loo, bins, kitchen), closing up at night (music & lights off, door closed, cushions in).
Enjoy and respect Seixal & Madeira - we're sure you'll love our village as much as we do. Please be considerate of the local area and our lovely neighbours

Where to find things:

Cleaning products

  • Cleaning products that we use regularly for room cleaning are in a red bucket in the right side staff only cupboard in the kitchen. Spares of cloths or cleaning products should also be in either of the two staff only cupboards 

  • Broom and mop are in the gap beside the fridge 

  • Spare shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash for topping up all lives in the cupboard under the stairs in the downstairs bathroom 

  • Vacuum cleaner also lives in bathroom cupboard under stairs ​

Bedding & Towels

Linen and towels etc for rooms should all be freshly washed things that are in boxes in the laundry BUT 

Spare emperor duvet sets, fitted sheets, mattress protectors and pillow cases are in room 5 cupboard (and a couple in bunk kitchen)

Spare king size duvet covers, fitted sheets and mattress protectors are in room 3 cupboard 

Spare super king size duvet covers, fitted sheets and mattress protectors are in room 6 

Spare pillows and towels are in room 3 cupboard 

Spare single bed stuff and pillow cases are in bottom row of bunk kitchen cupboard 

Room 1 = king size bed

Room 2 = king size bed 

Room 3 = 2x single (can be made into a super king I think?

Room 4 = emperor size bed 

Room 5 = emperor size bed 

Room 6 = super king size bed 

Every day jobs

  • Vacuum and mop guest house hallway, landing and stairs 

  • Make sure kitchens are clean, wash and clear away any dishes 

  • MOrfning - first up, door, Put out outdoor cushions and hammock in the morning 

  • Evening, last to bed, door , sign light, tree light pergola light, hammocks, cushions. Close laundry room for cats

  • Take bins and recycling to the bins down the road 

  • If it rains take in the outdoor furniture cushions All outdoor furniture stuff lives in laundry room overnight 

  • Downstairs loo

  • Help with check ins - show people to rooms, let them know about all our facilities and services, be friendly!

Room changeover tick list

Bunks - Single bed, 1 large towel, 1 pillow?

Private rooms - 

 ◦ Strip bed and old towels and put laundry in laundry room 

 ◦ Make bed with new laundry - fitted sheet, duvet cover, 4 pillows (one pillow for bunk beds)

 ◦ Arrange towels so that you have one big towel and one small hand towel per person folded on the bed nicely (bunk beds only get one big towel)

 ◦ Clean bathroom - shower, toilet, sink

 ◦ Check if hand wash/shampoo/conditioner/body wash need topping up 

 ◦ Top up toilet paper - one roll by toilet and 4 spares  

 ◦ Empty bin and change bin bag in toilet 

 ◦ Put one clean hand towel and one shower mat in bathroom 

 ◦ Dust the surfaces like bedside tables and skirting boards 

 ◦ Clean windows 

 ◦ Sweep balcony if room has balcony 

 ◦ Vacuum 

 ◦ Mop 

Report shampoo & shower gel levels, and top up if necessary

​Additional Room 1 items

 Clean sink and stovetop

 Clean microwave

 Clean fridge 

 Top up tea bags and Nespresso pods

 Clean & empty Nespresso pod bin attached to machine

 Empty bin bag and replace 

 Clean dishes if required and put away 

 Empty & clean drawers and cupboards every time.

Clean Extractor, and cupboard doors & fridge doors inside and out - no smears please :-)

Clean splashback and kettle

 Give them a new tea towel and sponge 

 Top up oil/dishwashing liquid if required

Check cleanliness of all crockery, cutlery and glassware

Check for missing items (there should be …)
